FAR - What is provided?
Two Freeman Artist Residencies fellows are selected each year. Awardees residing in Charlottesville, VA each receive a 200 square foot studio, a $1'500 materials stipend and mentorship via UVa Studio Arts faculty & visiting artists. In the instance of artists working remotely, they will receive an increased stipend of $2'500. As the program is evolving to venues in Greece and Wales, addtional creative and travel opportunities may be provided pending funding.The residency concludes with a two-person exhibition at Visible Records, an artist-run gallery in the Woolen Mills district of Charlottesville, Virginia.
FAR Eligibility
UVa alumni within six years of graduation. FAR offers residencies for applicants regardless of geographical location. BIPOC, LGBTQ+ & first generation college graduates will be given priority.
FAR - Fellowship Dates
September 1st 2024 through August 05th 2025*. Visible Records exhibition dates for 2025 TBA. Resident artists are responsible for installation and de-installation of exhibition.
FAR - Application Guidelines
Applications should could contain the following as a single PDF File: a current CV; five images of recent work (within two years) with title, date, dimensions & materials of each work; an artist statement (max 500 words) which should include your eligibility & proposal of creative work for the residency.
